Word (or Words) of the Year for 2025

Word (or Words) of the Year for 2025

Hey there! I can’t believe the holidays are over, and we are well into January 2025.

Since it is a new year, I wonder how many of you selected a “word of the year”? They have become very popular, and I am seeing lots of people posting on social media about their word of the year.

Some years, I have participated in this, while other years, not so much.  Last year, my word was “Shine,” based on Matthew 5:13- 16. My focus was that as a Christian, I am to be light to those around me. Not because of who I am but because of who Christ is in me. It centered me and helped me see things through a different lens as I went through the days of 2024.

This year, I don’t have just one word. I have two words and two verses to go with it. I know. I am extra sometimes. Yet, I know this is what God has put on my heart to focus on in the coming year.

My two words are “Be Still”.

The two scriptures are:

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God”.

Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be still and what it means to number our days. As I am in my early 50s, the reality that my days are numbered weighs heavy. How do I continue to live the rest of my life with a heart of wisdom?

Being still is not necessarily my strong suit. I am a doer and can be very task-oriented. There is always one more thing to do. And while I do not think being still means doing nothing, I know, for me, it is to stop, savor my days, and choose my time wisely. I want to learn to be still and KNOW that the God of the universe still sits on the throne and holds me in the palm of His hand (see Isaiah 41:13 and Psalm 66:9). I can stop striving, saying yes to everything, and just be still. So that is the goal this year.

I’m still trying to figure out what this looks like in the coming months. But I know it involves re-evaluating some things, even good things, in my life, spending more time with family, and learning to sit with the unknowns and the quiet.

I’d love to hear if you have a word, phrase, scripture or mantra for 2025! Leave me a comment below.

May God teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom in 2025.

If we were in person, I'd invite you to sit on the porch while we shared a cup of coffee or tea. My desire is for us to have conversations about real life and how God and His Word brings us hope and changes lives. Pull up a chair, grab your favorite drink, and be encouraged as you read through some things God has put on my heart to strengthen us. Thanks for stopping by!
